**Note: Mommy is NOT an Auburn fan. Mommy is an Alabama fan. However, I choose not to fight my husband on whether or not Carter will be an Alabama or Auburn fan because boys always follow in their daddy’s footsteps. Also, Bama’s game was past Carter’s bedtime last weekend. He WILL be sporting Bama gear this weekend.**
When you get pregnant you get prepared for all kinds of things. Learning about diaper changes. The lack of sleep. The constant crying. The lack of “me” time. There are so many things people tell you ahead of time and most of which you already know but nonetheless, you get the warnings from people.
But the thing no one prepares you for is how your heart turns to complete mush when you have a child. People prepare you for the days when your child will drive you absolutely bonkers that you literally want to pull your hair out. But for all the hours and hours that you want to pull your hair out, all it takes is one glance of the sweetest image in the world and your heart turns into more mush. People don’t prepare you for the love that comes with seeing your baby boy with his daddy in such a vulnerable state. I got to see this yesterday.
Justin went to put Carter down for a nap yesterday and after quite a while, he still hadn’t come back downstairs. I looked at the monitor and Carter wasn’t in the bed either. Naturally, I went to investigate. When I went into Carter’s bedroom, this is what I saw. I wanted to cry for some reason. I have seen this image a million times throughout Carter’s life. But something about seeing this just made my heart sink. You’re prepared to love your child so much it hurts. But you’re not prepared to fall in love with your husband all over again in a completely different way. He is such a great daddy to Carter and Carter lights up when he sees daddy. It truly is the sweetest thing!
Number 91 on my list of 101 things to do in 1,001 days was to introduce my little munchkin to my long time best friend Lauren. Lauren lives in Seattle with her husband Garrett so I never get to see her :( Lauren, myself, and her sister Lindsey have been best friends for almost TWO decades now. I can’t believe that every time I say it. Two decades.
Anyway, Lauren lives in Seattle and her sister lives in Dallas. Lauren and Garrett moved to Seattle (where Garrett’s from) when they got married in 2006, but Lindsey just now moved to Dallas for work this year. They were in town all last week because their brother got married in Fairhope, AL. I saw them at the wedding but Carter wasn’t with me. Lindsey and their mom came to the hospital when Carter was born and Lindsey has seen him several times since then, but Lauren hasn’t been back in Alabama since he was born so this was her first time to meet him.

After hanging out in the living room for a while watching Carter play, we decided to all take a golf cart ride around the neighborhood. I was so glad her and Garrett got to meet him. The next time she’ll be here is at Christmas so he’ll be a year old then. Another statement I have a hard time believing. A YEAR OLD.
I remember when I told Lauren I was pregnant. As soon as I left our very first ultrasound when we heard the heartbeat, I took a picture of the ultrasound photo with my cell phone and sent it to her via text that said “Hey Aunt Lauren. See you in December!”. She called me immediately and said “OMG how dare you tell me that via text!!!!!”. I just wish I could have seen her face when she saw the text…that may have been priceless. I don’t think she had any idea Justin and I were even talking about babies yet! I miss them :(
